Carole Goldberg graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, with a BS in Elementary Education with a major in mathematics and returned home to Florida to teach in the public schools. Three years later, after receiving a Master of Education specializing is administration and supervision from the University of Miami, she took a leave of absence from the public school system to spend a year teaching at the Miami High School in Israel, (now, the Alexander Muss High School in Israel). When the year was over, Carole returned to the Dade County Public School System.
In 1980, Carole made a career change and moved to New Jersey where she worked at an investment banking firm achieving the position of Senior Vice President. In 1987, Carole established a consulting company that handled special projects for various businesses. After successfully completing a project for an employee leasing firm, Carole was offered and accepted their offer to become their Director of Operations.
A few years later, an opportunity presented itself for Carole to serve as the administrator at Temple B’nai Or in Morristown, New Jersey. In 1998, she moved to West Hartford, CT to serve as the Executive Director of Congregation Beth Israel, a congregation of over 1200 families.
In 2001, Carole was offered an executive position at the Union for Reform Judaism in New York, NY, which is the umbrella organization of Reform Jewish Congregations in America. She accepted and served as an Associate Director of the Maintenance of Union Membership (MUM), in August 2002 she was promoted to Acting Director, and in April 2003 assumed the role permanently through August 2013. As the Director of MUM, she oversaw the daily operation of the MUM Department including supervision of staff responsible for the calculation of the almost 900 congregational obligations, receipt of payments, maintenance of MUM accounting system, and monthly billing resulting in the annual collection of at least $24,000,000. In a reorganization of the URJ, she became the Director of Membership Research, Analysis, and Special Projects, and served in that capacity until her retirement in 2015.
After retirement, Carole developed her interest in grants for non-profits, completing the Proposal Writing Workshop at the Foundation Center in New York. She continued her learning through online coursework from The American Grant Writers Association. In October 2015, she earned her certification as a grant writer from the AGWA by completing an in-person examination.
Carole has applied her training by working as a volunteer for the Florida Breast Cancer Foundation (FBCF) where she served on their Board of Directors and as the Chair of the Education Committee. In 2021, Carole assumed the role of Chair of the Finance Committee, and in June 2022, was elected Treasurer of the FBCF. In late 2022, Carole left the FBCF Board, to join the Florida Cancer Support Network, as a founding member of the Board of Directors and was elected Treasurer. Carole also serves as Treasurer of her condo association and is currently the President/Treasurer of the auxiliary of the Ladies Auxiliary Jewish War Veterans of the USA #321.
